Intellectual property plays an important role in providing a competitive edge to any Institution. The Stella Mary’s College of Engineering recognizes the importance of generation of intellectual property by its teachers and students. The college is committed to do all that is within its powers and obligations to encourage the creativity and innovation of its people, which can lead to generation of intellectual property (IP). This cell provides support and guidance to the engineering students and staff in protecting their inventions and creations.
The major objectives of the IPR Cell include:
A Seminar on Civil softwares was organized in association with CADD centre, Nagercoil. Students from II &III year attended the event and gained knowledge on different softwares such as CAD, Primavera and REVIT.
A Seminar on IAS career guidance program was organized in association with Winner choice academy,Nagercoil.Students from IV year attended the event. Many talented students aspire to have a career as an IAS officer but lack knowledge of the means to achieve their goal; this seminar explained the different frontiers of the exam, websites and books to refer to clear the examination.
Two days hands on training on IOT by MAT Engineering equipment by Mohaad Hazzrudin the security concerns were mainly explained in his training along with the use of IOT in Various systems for smoother data transfer.
The seminar focussed on the artificial intelligence that provides systems the ability to learn and improve without being explicitly programmed. This is a trend that is developed and it also helps patients with non recoverable ailments.
A Guest Lecture on Cloud Virtualization was given by Dr.Radhakrishnan, University College of Engineering, Nagercoil. Dr.Radhakrishnan explained the different types of virtualization through which a virtual platform can be created for operating systems and storage devices.
The event was presided by Er. Benjamin and Mr. Saju from 3Q Inspection Service, KK. District. They trained students for NDT which is a soaring technology in the field of mechanical engineering.
The seminar was conducted to explain the existence of HVAC QA/QC. Mr. Shriram explained the importance of quality control and the different ways of maintaining the quality in mechanical equipments.
CADD centre organised a competition to give scholarship for students, The benefits of getting such scholarship was given by a seminar for the students of the mechanical department.
The training was led by K.T Anish Kumar from Techinz Centre, Nagercoil. The multi-diciplinary finite element pre-processor which manages the generation of the largest, most complex models, starting with the import of CAD geometry was presented.
The importance of surveying and the different methods were explained along with the different principles involved, the advantages over other methods was also elucidated. Students were introduced to solutions for different problems related to terrain.
Intra Collegiate Technical Symposium named TECH’X-18 was organized for the Department of CSE. Various competitions were conducted for the students in which many students participated and won prizes.
The training was organized for III & IV year students in association with Micro ITI, Nagercoil. Students learned the basic wiring in equipments and also the basics of household wiring. They were given displays of common household equipments.
Workshop on Web Designing for the III year and IV year students was conducted and students were taught the basics of web designing. They were also given hands- on training on the different themes and the methods of using them to create a good website.
The workshop mainly focussed on Big Data and associated processing based on Apache NiFi, Apache Storm and Apache Kafka. Cloudera Haoop was the region of interest.
A Seminar on Awareness about the different Value Added Courses related to EEE such as REVIT – MEP & Embedded Systems was organized in association with Livewire, Nagercoil
Mr. Ben Charles explained about the product that makes it possible to partition a single physical server into multiple virtual machines. This includes a large number of soft-wares which can be concurrently used on the same hardware.
A partnership programme in association was organized for the II, III & IV year students. Mr. Vincent Jain, IEEE Brand Ambassador delivered the lecture. He cited the importance of engineers in the Fishing sector and highlighted the projects done by students in IEEE ADSF SIGHT.
Awareness Programme for IEEE SIGHT was organized about the benefits of being a member for the elite students of EEE, ECE, MECH & CIVIL Departments. Ms. J Angeline Indra shared her experience of working with SIGHT and gave a presentation of Solar Tricycle.
Stella Mary’s Energy Saving Awareness club was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. L. Ramesh – Founder & Chairman – Energy Efficiency Research Group. A seminar on “Need for Energy Conservation” was organized for EEE & MECH Engineering students and Dr. J. Balamurugan, Assistant Engineer, TNEB presented the topic.
The program was organized for I year students and Dr. T. D. Subash, Chair-IEEE Photonics Society Madras Chapter was the chief guest;a motivational talk was given to the III & IV year students on the rules to a happy and successful entrepreneur.
A Seminar was organized in association with Presto land survey institute & complete Engineering solution;Various students from other colleges also participated in the event.
An Awareness programme related to Civil such as Structural Detailing and Quality control was organized in association with Educadd Tech, Nagercoil. The importance of quality assurance and the need for maintaining quality in any erected structure was explained.
A one day workshop was organized in association with Vector works India private limited; Students gained knowledge on different softwares such as REVIT, Primavera and CAD.
Two Days Hands on Training on Electronic Components By Instruments India was conducted for the department of ECE. Students were given an exposure to the different components that are commonly used in any equipment and their functioning.
Mrs.S.V.Kayalvizhi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE, St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering; Chunkankadai was invited as guest speaker. She explained the basics of MEMS and the fabrication of different types of sensors.
Mr. G. Mohanavilian, Presto Land Survey Institute Salem gave a Guest lecture on Land Survey which is crucial to the process of responsible land development. He explained their common use in determining easements and encroachments.
‘ELECSPIRE 2K’18 was organized to commemorate 50th Engineer’s Day. Paper Presentation Contest, Technical Quiz, Creative Model Expo & Technical Talk Show were organized and various students participated. Winners were awarded with certificates.
Overview of the different controllers with a dedicated function within a larger mechanical or electrical system with real time computing constraints which can be used to control many devices was given. Examples of wide range of systems which range from small systems to large controllers were illustrated.
